What Happens after
Registration
The youngest age groups have typically a large number of new players. The club
holds one or two grading days in mid February to help assess and compare the
ability of players.
Players are sent emails about when and where to turn up.
Most players choose to play with school mates and friends, this grading process
is not used to separate them but is used to rank one group against another and
ultimately determine opponents of similar ability. In most age groups there only
the top one or two teams is made up of players who choose to play at the highest
possible level rather than with friends.
For those in the teenage years, most age groups have one or two teams. The club
leaves grading process as late as possible to ensure we have all the players
registered and the correct grading of these competitive teams. Also, if there is
only a single team, grading is not necessary.
Each of the adult age groups has a coordinator who will organise trial games and
similar events to help with the selection process.
Whilst the above grading process is going on, the club along with other clubs
nominates to the district its team numbers on about 20th February. At
this point the club still does not know the players in each team but is required
to submit the total number of teams in each age group.
Based on these nominations, the district begins preparing divisions and draw for
the 15,000 players and 1300 teams. Once teams are nominated, the club can add
players to teams but cannot add teams.
In early March, the members of each team is announced and teams are issued with
equipment.
First
games are normally the last week in April.
